Description

Mexico’s oil and gas public policy and legal framework were clearly outlined when the Energy Reform was signed and enacted. Now, the country will host a new administration for the coming six years, which is charged with improving the fine details of the reform and working closely with the industry’s autonomous regulators to strengthen their capabilities. While most of the relevant aspects of Mexico’s oil and gas policy and legal framework are already working organically and effectively, there are still some details that will need to be further assessed by the country’s oil and gas authorities and put in motion by the industry. For the oil and gas sector to work properly there are two fundamental aspects that need to be present: geological and commercial success and a strong and clear legal framework to safeguard everyone’s best interests. Mexico should continue bolstering its oil and gas industry by deleting any legal and public policy weak links present across the sector’s value chain.
