Description

In recent years, Mexico has become a beacon for medical tourism. The rise in the number of foreigners arriving to the country to receive various clinical and aesthetic treatments results in significant financial spillover. According to Deloitte, the number of tourists coming to Mexico to receive medical treatments, cures or surgical procedures is hard to put in precise figures. However, it is estimated that Baja California alone receives 2.4 million patients annually from the US. The medical tourism industry is estimated to represent around US$23 billion and the states with the biggest potential are Baja California, Tamaulipas, Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Monterrey and Mexico City.  Mexico is ranked the world's second-largest nation, after Thailand, for medical tourism.

The Medical Tourism chapter includes businesses, institutions and organizations that seek to capitalize on the opportunities that medical tourism offers Mexico. Its goal is to highlight the opportunities and barriers the nation faces to exploit this industry.
